No one can deny how gold is one of the best, and one of the purest kind of metals, which also has a very valuable monetary status. It is a common practice these days to transform metals in the shape of bar for ease in carrying and storage. Similar goes for gold, where bars are made for purposes of storage. Considering how precious gold is, it is not used for shipment. As for a gold bar, it is a bar made out of gold, as could be told from the name.
The weights, types, and prices have a diverse variety when it comes to gold bars. Even the manufacturing methods are different from bar to bar. History reveals that the gold bars found their origin in China, the tale not just a story, but a reflection of the true value that gold was given by people of those times.
When one talks about the different methods of manufacturing gold bars, there are two methods, and three types of gold bars. The first type is the large sized gold bar with a weight that is accurate. Then comes the small sized gold bars that have precise weights. Last but not the least, there are long sized (more precisely horizontal) gold bars, which are used generally to manufacture minted gold bars.
Normally, gold is transformed into bars through two methods. These methods are namely the casting method and then there is the minted method. When you talk about casting method, the procedure is all about using melting gold, which is poured into a cast (mold). That is why it is called casting method. As for the second method, this is about cutting gold with the help of another piece of gold.
Casting Method:
As could be told from the names, a cast (mold) is used in the casting method that is used to store melting gold, which is further left to harden, and solidify. The method of casting has two further divisions, namely the purification, and the liquefaction of gold. The first division that is purification involves danger, and the process is complex too. In the casting method, the gold is first put into a pan, which is heated. Then a mold that is the shape of a brick is stuffed with liquid gold, which when hardens turns into a bar. Later on, it is left in the open air, or put in a water tank to be cooled. Following cooling, these bars are then placed on tables, and are cleaned with a towel.
Minting Method:
As for the minting method, the common purpose of this type is to make coins. However, other than that, it is also used to make gold bars. Gold is used as a cutting tool in the mint method as mentioned before. It cuts other pieces of gold in the size, and shape that is required. A mechanical compression is employed for the markings on the gold bar.
Another way to make markings is by hammering each bar. For this purpose, a stencil is used mostly. A third way of making these markings is to put bars in a hydraulic press. As for serial numbers to be stamped on the bars, they are passed through stamp machines that assign a sequential serial number on each gold bar.
In the contemporary scenario, these gold bars are known as Gold tola bars. The unit of measurement is tola henceforth the name. On the international front, governments all over the world happen to keep gold bars in their custody, the possession of which signifies the influence, and wealth of them in the economy.
