A minor plumbing requirement may ask you to carry out a major alteration in the plumbing architecture. In such a case, you require new plumbing purchases and pipes. The associated plumbing segment may not possess the same plumbing pipes as that of yours. However, one can cut down the costs by adopting some wise measures. One of them includes the method of connecting a PVC pipe to a copper pipe. For example, a water sprinkler system with PVC pipes would be able to connect to your plumbing setup with copper pipes.
The connection works on a simple fitting of the constituting components. The copper male threaded adapter would connect to the PVC female threaded adapter.
It is very important to follow all the safety precautions while handling the job. Also, avail the assistance of an expert whenever complications are faced.
Walk down to the concerned copper pipe and determine the location where the other pipe would meet the copper pipe. Remove the portion of the copper pipe that would not participate in the connection. Use a hacksaw to render a smooth cut on the pipe. Furthermore, make the pipe suitable for the connection by drying it off. Also, sand the section of the pipe by rubbing it with an emery cloth. Repeat the same process with the slip end of the copper male adapter.
Apply a coat of soldering flux on the insides of the copper pipe. Make sure that the flux is applied on the specific areas of the copper pipe. Push the adapter unit onto the copper pipe. You would realize yourself when the adapter fits in place. Make way for a propane torch to heat up the slip joint. You would notice that the flux melts out of the joint and occupies the opening between the threads. Give enough time to let the flux dry off. Once the flux dries off completely, you would observe a more stiff setting.
Follow it up by wrapping Teflon tape around the juncture. Do not overdo the wrapping and keep the number of wraps to 1 or 2.
Place the PVC female adapter on the copper male threaded adapter and start screwing it with bare fingers. Hand-tighten as long as the screw rotates with ease. Thereafter, use a wrench to tighten the setting.
Cement the other end of the pipe to make it convenient for connection.
